Veshenskaya is one of the oldest Don stanitsas, situated 350 km away from Rostov.
This Cossack village is famous as the homeland of the Nobel prize winner, the great Russian writer M.Sholokhov. In his outstanding novel “The Tikhi Don” he depicts the subtile beauty of the Don's nature and the traditions and life of the Don Cossacks.
The State Museum keeps the collection of all the items connected with the life and the literary works of M. Sholokhov.
The folklore festival “The Sholokhov’s spring" is carried out in May and starts at sunrise. Folklore groups go along the stanitsa with songs,
humorous sayings and rhymes and dances.
The festival is continuing with a theatrical performance from “The Tikhi Don” scenes, concertos and fireworks.
