Literary Heritage of the Don Land

In this tour you can see the sites associated with the lives and writings of the pantheon of world known writers: Anton Chekhov, Mikhail Sholokhov, Alexander Solzhenitsin, Alexandr Pushkin.

Day 1. Rostov-on-Don
Arrival at the airport in the afternoon. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 2. City-tour Rostov-on-Don.
After breakfast a tour of the city central area will take us through a city alive and vibrant, rising into the hills along the banks of the river Don near the Azov Sea. Its magnificent old 18th and 19th century mansions, brick and mortar houses, block apartments, and 21st century tower office buildings. The city is rich with beautiful parks, theatres and museums, casual cafes and delightful friendly restaurants.
After lunch is a motor ship walk up the river Don (1 hour).
Free time.

Day 3. Stanitsa Razdorsskaya
After breakfast excursion to Razdory, the oldest Cossack stanitsa (village), situated on the river Don, where You will walk along the typical house houses (kurens) and will visit the etnographic museum. You can also take part in the folklore programmer with ancient Cossack songs and games.

Arrival in the evening. Check-in at the hotel.

Day 4. Stanitsa Veshenskaya
After breakfast guided walk through the stanitsa, the homeland of the famous Russian writer and Noble-prize winner Mikhail Sholokhov, visiting the museum and the farmstead of M.Sholokhov, the literary excursion «M. Sholokhov. Times and Life»
You may visit the museum's stable and ride the horse afterwards.
Lunch with folklore programmer.
Small eco-excursion to the Old Oak.
Ecological excursion «The nature of the Don» (Spur and Swan's ravine)
*N.B. Visit also the «Sholokhov Spring» Festival during the last weekend of May 2008

Day 5. Stanitsa Veshenskaya, Khutor (village) Kruzhilinsky and Stanitsa Karginskaya
After breakfast departure from the stanitsa Veshenskaya for the excursion to the khutor (village) Kruzhilinsky and the stanitsa Karginskaya, where M.Sholokhov was born and brought up.
Departure to Taganrog.
Lunch on the road.
Arrival late evening. Check-in at the hotel in Taganrog.

Day 6. Taganrog
After breakfast excursion in Taganrog.
Taganrog is a quiet, cozy town, founded by the tsar Peter the Great and famous all over the world as the motherland of the beloved and admired writer, Anton Chekhov. Many museums such as "Tchekhov's house" and "Tchekhov's shop"depicts Chekhov's youth.
Walk on Pushkin Embankment.
Overnight in Taganrog

Day 7. Taganrog. Tanais
Museum "Alferaki Palace" in Taganrog will bring to light a period of charm and gracefulness in Russian history.
Lunch in Taganrog.
In the afternoon You will visit the archaeological open-air museum reserve Tanais. The ancient port of Tanais was founded in the 3rd century BC by Greeks from Bospor and was a center of trade, art and craftmanship for more than 6 centuries.The area of the city ruins and exhibits in the museum building tell a story of life here on the frontiers of the Greek and Roman periods.
Optional visit to the old armenian village Chaltyr, where we can see the old church and have typical dinner in the armenian ethnographic restaurant.
Return to Rostov.

Day 8. Stanitsa Starocherkasskaya
After breakfast start of an excursion to the small Cossack village, once called "the Venice of the Don," built on an island in the Don River. Today the small village, a UNESCO recognized historic location, holds the heart and soul of the Don Cossack people, their history, and culture.

Return to Rostov.
Transfer to the airport (train station) and departure.
